I’ve recently made the call to move from iOS to GrapheneOS after about a decade in Apple’s ecosystem.
I’ll be honest, it’s a bit of a shock. I’m used to stock iOS apps, the App Store, and not having to think too much about what’s going on under the hood. Now I’ve got far more control, but also far more decisions to make.
I’m looking for some guidance on how to set things up properly.
Where should I be getting my apps from. What’s the general approach here. What are the essentials you’d recommend for someone starting out.
For context, I regularly use Waze for navigation and Strava for training, but I’m open to alternatives if there are better options within this space.
One thing I rely on quite a lot is contactless pay. On iPhone I use it more often than I’d like to admit, mainly because I understand it’s more secure than using a physical card. Not sure what the best approach is on GrapheneOS, so any advice there would be useful.
I’m also trying to use my phone less. Social media, general time wasting. I still want access, but ideally with some friction or limits in place similar to what iPhone offers with screen time.
I’m not under any illusions about being a target, but I don’t subscribe to the “nothing to hide” mindset either. I’d rather understand the system and make deliberate choices.
Any solid advice appreciated
