Motorola Preinstalling GOS?

I could've sworn I saw the devs comment that they wanted to offer Motorola phones with GOS installed before they ship.

They were hoping to charge a small fee of like $40 to do this.

Possibly around the same time, there was also discussion regarding how they're realistically going to track the number of units sold, being a privacy- and security-focused organization.

I cannot for the life of me find the random Reddit comment talking about Motorola preinstalling GOS. Is this still going to be a thing?

I'd absolutely love to support the project in this way!

I think I saw that mentioned, perhaps as a "stretch goal", maybe on Mastodon. I do not believe that at present that is an expectation (especially not with a date, especially not at the time of first device availability).

I'm sure that between now and the first official announcement of what will be offered there will be thousands of speculative posts, most of which will not pan out (some of which will be motivated by garnering views).

You'll be able to buy the regular variant of the supported devices to install GrapheneOS. Devices being sold with GrapheneOS preinstalled is wanted but the details need to be worked out. It may start as something people install themselves with preinstalled coming later on.

The Motorola phones that will work with GOS are slated to release in 2027.

I haven't specifically heard of what you're referring to, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been discussed. I suspect we'll hear more about the possibility of this when it gets closer to phone launch.
