Cross Profile Notifications Inconsistent

Hi all,

Relatively new to GrapheneOS on Pixel 8 Pro.
Simple background is multiple user profiles with 2 always on, Owner profile with not much on, and a profile for messaging apps without google play services. Anything that absolutely needs google is in its own profile.

When I first installed Whatsapp and Messenger via Aurora store with notifications set to current user, battery optimisation on unrestricted for both, everything was fine. But I'm about 3 days later, and today I get very delayed messenger notifications on other profiles, and 0 Whatsapp.
Switching to the messaging profile, all notifications are there singing and dancing.

Browsed these forums extensively and the resounding answer seems to be google play services are required, but if they worked fine for 3 days without, I don't see how they could be.
The only change I noticed today is the Aurora store on the messaging profile requested a new one. Other than that no settings were changed.
Any one experienced similar quirks/any other tips to try? I'd rather not have google play services near these apps if its possible

Update if anyone stumbles on this, I'm a day later, installing sandboxed google play services, and playstore not signed in (leaving all settings for playstore untouched), setting battery usage on GPS to unrestricted and allowing notifications for it, I get notifications on all profiles that do AND do not have GPS installed.
Disappointing that this seems to be a requirement for consistency, but I suppose sandboxed google play with restrictions is better than a full Google phone. Hopefully a de-google fix can be implemented in the future.

tmoney Will also add that I did not need to res-install any apps after installing GPS, whatsapp seemed to detect it after rebooting following GPS install as it prompted me to sign in to Google to enable backup, which it did not do beforehand.
