Hello Google Pixel Team. Pixel devices aren’t officially sold in Pakistan, yet a fast-growing community uses them. 5G is blocked despite capable hardware. Please enable 5G via update for Jazz, Zong & Ufone. It would greatly improve user experience. Thank you.

Is this post a report that one or more specific Pixel models doesn't receive 5G service on those carriers even if the override toggles are used?

Or is this post a question about whether or not 5G can work using GrapheneOS on those carriers?

Zong has to put in the work to provide info to google for 5G support.
I'm sure it's the same for the other carriers. Call them to ask them to add support.

It will be necessary for somebody who is in Pakistan and has a Pixel device to try installing GrapheneOS and enabling the 5G forcing toggle. As I understand it, at present zero of the GrapheneOS developers are in Pakistan. If that is accurate, then the GrapheneOS project is genuinely very unlikely to take any action at least until somebody who is in Pakistan tries the existing workaround and reports that it doesn't work.

It is implausible that the GrapheneOS project can (potentially) address a 5G problem with specific carriers in Pakistan without data from Pakistan. Posting on the forum without detailed data from Pakistan won't do it.

Please note that I don't speak for the GrapheneOS project.

This is a carrier issue between Zong and Google. As mentioned in other threads, I don't believe anyone here has the relevant information to bypass it.

VoLTE forcing (and 5G forcing) was added to GrapheneOS in October: https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/2406-5g-on-non-google-supported-country/26

What that means is that for many users VoLTE (and 5G) can be forced on without carriers sending Google new configuration information.

Whether that works or doesn't work for any given user depends on factors such as the carrier and perhaps specific Pixel device models.

Thank you for the info, you're right. It very well could work and needs testing.

I'm guessing there could be issues with:

battery life since it'll likely be scanning through 26 5G frequencies if it's unaware of Pakistani standards.
NSA doubles the frequencies scanned.
Might miss out on the 5G speed gains of multiple frequencies together.
VoNR might work

I just saw that the Pixel 10 supports NB-IoT. I'll ask Santa for a force override to surprise my carrier with my new found battery life.

Indeed. It is also possible that the override toggles that shipped with GrapheneOS in October might solve the problem before Zong does. But the only way for us to know that is if somebody in Pakistan tries it and reports the outcome.
