I’m still trying to decide what to do about my online privacy. My iPhone started asking for age verification and it’s broken my card wouldn’t scan etc. so I brought a pixel 9 and a pixel 10 and installed graphene bit long term I’m scared of this climate and age verification and the privacy risks. I am in my 30s and shouldn’t have to be handing over ID to use my device as a neurodivergent person I find this very invasive and triggering.
I’m wanting to weigh my options and ask questions.
Will graphene be requiring age verification at os level in the future or is it safe? I’m so triggered by it that I got a sailfish os (Linux) phone as well as a graphene so I have options but ultimately I’m only wanting to move my data once. I’m wanting out of the apple each system, the most painful part will be transferring all of my email accounts away from iCloud but I understand
That I could maybe just forward them to another email account?.
I’m considering selling my apple hardware including my Mac and iPhone, iPad etc I really feel betrayed by apple. My understanding is that in the UK currently there is no mandatory ID verification for hardware providers yet apple chose to implement it, I complained to apple and they said if I don’t like it use the phone without an apple account.
I don’t think it’s about keeping anyone safe, it’s about linking your identity to your hardware and it’s about surveillance and it’s a slippery slope because if apple bow down to the given over this what’s next? A backdoor? Recording of everything you do on a device? Chats with loved ones? And what happens to this data? They’ll probably sell it for one, they confirmed they’ll share all ID data with Europe as a whole and it’s really scaring me to be frank, eventually I believe they’ll install AI cameras everywhere, start tracking your every movement, selling the data and stalkers will access this data and yes I have a stalker and it bothers me.
I’d like to not need a phone however my social anxiety and health anxiety means I need a phone as reassurance. I’d love another form of communication that maybe has a 5 mile range with encryption and voice calls but in an urban environment you won’t get walking talkies / two way radio to bounce that far without a licence, lora is experimental and would probably need a drone to elevate it high enough to get the range. I’d love to leave the UK to be honest and maybe one day I will when I retire when I’m old.
