VPN + NextDNS via Wireguard app

I'm looking for the best way to combine a VPN with NextDNS so I can have both privacy and ad blocking at the same time. I’ve read other posts here, as well as the official statement from GrapheneOS, which state that the private DNS feature should not be used alongside a VPN. I’m thinking the solution is to use the WireGuard app and configure it to route the connection through the VPN using NextDNS’s DNS servers. The private DNS toggle will be off. Has anyone tried this setup? Could this be a way to have separate VPN connections and DNS filtering in each user profile?

Let me explain better. My goal is to use my VPN provider (hide.me) and NextDNS at the same time. Here's what I came up with:

Download the WireGuard configuration file from my VPN account
Edit the configuration file and insert the IPv4 address of my NextDNS account into it
Install the WireGuard app
Import the configuration file into the WireGuard app
Use the VPN via the WireGuard app
In System settings: Set “Private DNS” to “Off” and “Always Use VPN” to “On”
