whiteman808 there are probably PLENTY of folks with Graphene who have similar rationale to yours. Everyone has a different reason, ranging indeed from needing a high degree of privacy or security for their safety or work, to people whose personal preference is just to feed less data to the big companies, to people who want the lifestyle simplicity of a dumbphone experience without stooping to using super unsecured actual dumbphones, and well beyond. Many people here are highly tech-savvy. Some of us just "get by" and are willing to learn as we go. It's up to you to decide whether or not it's to your own benefit.
Personally, I came to it (very recently) with the rationale that, the earlier I reduce breadcrumbs of behavior and life details given to big tech, the better, as late as it may already be. I have nothing to hide, but that's probably the best time to start, and I'm just a deeply private person. Because I don't put Google-dependent apps on my phone, and I want to be security-cautious with all the FOSS stuff, plus I'm not a techie, I've gotten the added benefit of a quasi-dumbphone experience, which I really like.
It's always just going to be each individual's call to make.
