RCS is e2ee but that doesnt mean google can't read the messages once they are on the app.
I think the google privacy policy says they collect or own anything you create or receive (gmail, sheets, docs, youtube, review comments) and I think it'd include texts.
Hopefully one day people work on their weekends to reverse engineer RCS and make a texting app that provides more freedom :)
There isn't a perfect solution. It could be: google, your carrier, government, foreign government, or data purchasers getting your intimate texts. At least with RCS, you know it's only 1 entity. Depends on who you trust.
Regular phone app:
Calls aren't encrypted. Doesn't matter. Use google phone if you want more caller id.
If a VoIP service says it is encrypted. Sure, it'll be encrypted from you to the VoIP service. Then it's not encrypted going thru the cell phone network to your friend's phone.
