Potential issues using SIM card from carrier locked Pixel in a Graphene Pixel?

I have a pixel 9 that's not paid off yet with AT&T and a used pixel 9 I just got that I put graphene on. If I take out the SIM card from my first pixel 9 and put it in the second pixel 9 that has graphene, will this cause any issues like with AT&T messing with my contract or giving me a fee, AT&T limiting my cell service, or just flat out not working at all?

I know some people probably don't use graphene with a SIM card at all but I'm trying to test out things with the OS to make a review about using graphene for my friends who are not as well versed in technology or changing around phone settings but are still interested in using it.

I'm also trying to ask about fees before I try it out myself because I really would like to avoid fees but can't seem to find relevant advice from searching.

You can swap your physical SIM back and forth as much as you'd like. Only an esim is tied to your device and you'd have to do a bit more to swap that over.

There will be no fee. You're paying for the SIM. You don't need to notify AT&T. No service limiting (The only difference is if it's 2 different models, 1 with a great antenna vs a mediocre antenna. So obviously the great antenna gets better reception)

If you'd like, you can call AT&T, preferably in the early morning for less of a wait.

1 weird thing that happened to me:
I put my physical sim into my new phone, my old phone would randomly get 1 out of 50 texts. It had no sim card. I kept it off to stop it from getting texts. Airplane mode will probably suffice.

I just put the sim card in and I automatically/immediately got a text from "1000000000" with what I'm assuming is sensitive information about my texting/sim card details. Is this normal or something I should look into?

Normal. No action needed.

Might take time or the old phone should be in airplane + no wifi while you don't need the old phone.
If that doesnt work for a while, try shutdown like I mentioned.

I'd say the lesser of 2 evils is diving into google messages and RCS. Rcs is e2ee. SMS is like sending a letter with no envelope - people could read it in transit.

For SMS there is quick SMS or fossify messages
I know nothing about these except they're still developed and receive updates. QKSMS no longer receive updates.

Zero interaction exploits have been observed in the wild. You receive a text then your SMS app is hacked. So security should be a factor.

I also just called someone and it worked, but when they texted me it went to the old phone with no sim card. Putting the old phone in airplane mode did not send the new messages to the new phone, and turning off airplane mode old phone just let the texts get sent to the old phone again.

Edit: it seems to have needed a few minutes to cross over and is working correctly. Is the default graphene sms app the best option or is there something better I could look into? Don't really care much for rcs btw

Johnnyloans should I do the same with the phone app by replacing it with the Google version for extra security? I know rcs is e2ee but it's hard to trust a Google texting app - is it possible that Google could read/intercept texts? Don't know if it's the same kind of e2ee where they have literally no information lily work signal - I also use signal almost all the time with the exception of a few people.

RCS is e2ee but that doesnt mean google can't read the messages once they are on the app.

I think the google privacy policy says they collect or own anything you create or receive (gmail, sheets, docs, youtube, review comments) and I think it'd include texts.

Hopefully one day people work on their weekends to reverse engineer RCS and make a texting app that provides more freedom :)

There isn't a perfect solution. It could be: google, your carrier, government, foreign government, or data purchasers getting your intimate texts. At least with RCS, you know it's only 1 entity. Depends on who you trust.

Regular phone app:
Calls aren't encrypted. Doesn't matter. Use google phone if you want more caller id.

If a VoIP service says it is encrypted. Sure, it'll be encrypted from you to the VoIP service. Then it's not encrypted going thru the cell phone network to your friend's phone.

Somehow my graphene phone went back to only being able to send texts but not receive. A bunch of texts went to my old phone with no SIM card at once around noon today and I haven't been able to receive SMS texts from anyone since. I turned my phone on airplane mode since then and tested getting texts from someone. Nothing came to the graphene phone and even after turning airplane mode off, nothing has come to the old phone either yet.

Johnnyloans I was also having problems setting up voicemail (because I forgot my password lol) so I'll call my carrier tomorrow about this too.

I did notice that RCS might be causing the problem. Turning off RCS fixes the problem for individual group chats, but I still can't seem to get texts in group chats.

Thanks for this! I just did it but I'll have to test it out with group chats later. The verification text did go to my current graphene phone though.

I didn't realize you already set up RCS.

Switching rcs off and on will be problematic. Other phones will remember you are one or the other for hours (or a day?) and send messages wrong. (If you switch rcs off then you can only receive SMS then your RCS texts wont come in.)

This might take time for it switch over to your new phone. Might want to call your carrier about having a new phone and some messages go to the old one.

I was too busy to fix it for the past few days and it seems to have resolved itself on its own! I reset my voicemail password and it didn't work immediately but visual voicemail does work now and even prompted me for a new password.
