Multiple Users / One Number?

I'm thinking of going to GrapheneOS and I'm curious how the multiple users ("root"/Google/Personal/Work were my plans) work with messages and phone calls. If I receive a text message, will only one user's Messaging app receive the message? Or will it not matter which one I'll be using at the time?

It's not a "root" profile, it is the Owner profile. This profile is not more privileged than other profiles, even if it has a few extra settings. Secondary user profiles aren't designed as a security boundary, and the "isolat[ion]" offered by this feature is probably not what you think it is.

You have no access to root on GrapheneOS, and GrapheneOS cannot be rooted.

Most people don't need multiple profiles. They are recommended to be used by persona, not app category.

Everything around the radio signals (ie: cellular, wifi, bluetooth) is shared amongst all user profiles and can not be isolated (ie: you can not have "personal" profile connected to WiFi and disabled everywhere else).

If you're logged into "personal" profile and receive a phone call (assuming you allowed this profile to use calls/messaging), then you'll get the call there and also a notification on the owner's profile too. Assuming you only have filled the contacts list on "personal" profile, you get the caller's name there and the bare number on the owner's profile.

In the users setting you can enable/disable phone call & SMS for each profile.
