Considering the great swathes of information we can access on the internet and how our lives now revolve around tech... The authorities are getting bolder than ever, and now that half of our lives are online (especially for those who work in tech-related jobs), they can exert even more control and surveil us more efficiently as companies submit to avoid censure

By tech skills I don't just mean knowing how to click Troubleshoot in Windows, I mean actually understanding web protocols, encryption, terminal commands etc.

No. Nothing will be as important as financial skills in a capitalist society. Tech skills have become very valuable in the last couple decades, but if I had to pick one, it would be financial skills.

Osint is a good skill to learn. It's basically all kinds of public information that can he used to check what is out there about you. Investigators use these techniques to find a whole lot of information about anyone.

The point is, when you learn it, by default you begin to learn how the web works in some ways and learn what and what no to do to protect your privacy.

Just type "Osint" into youtube or search engine and jump down the rabbit hole.

and one does not need deep tech knowledge to do fine either,
a lot of people dont need to use the terminal ever for example,

most tech is build in a way that it tries to protect the user from these issues anyway.

one should be aware of fishing tho ofc and generally about how the data collection works, but for the second thing a rough "they always know what you are doing online" is enough

I assumed it meant: Losing your money is a quicker demise than getting locked out of your email for example. Financial skills would take priority over tech skills.

Avoiding a 26% interest rate car loan on your 18th birthday.
Keeping information that could be used at a financial institution safe.
Learn about: deductibles, premiums, compounding interest, inflation
Protection plans are usually a bad financial decision.
