How much memory space is the GOS instillation?

I've just installed GOS on a new Google Pixel 10 and its using 22GB

Android 11GB
Temporary system files 11GB

Why is the installation size so big and what are the 11GB of temp system files?

System is everything not in one of the other categories including lots of your data. It also includes space reserved by the SSD itself. It's not simply the OS. There's no generic solution to you having a lot of data on your device. You'll need to determine what's using space and decide what to remove.

Storage information shown by the OS uses the advertised storage capacity of the SSD and even includes the spare space reserved by the SSD. Larger storage has more space used at the start due to this.

A larger SSD has a larger amount of storage reserved as spare space. This is included in Android's calculation since it uses the advertised SSD size as the base for the calculation.

You're misreading the storage stats. It's showing you more than the size of the OS. It includes all of the SSD spare space and filesystem overhead.

System data is everything not included in the other categories. That includes internal SSD spare space and filesystem overhead which grow proportionally with the size of the drive. Caches also have much larger maximum sizes with a larger drive.

Since i learned of Cunninghams Law, i don't mind making calculated guesses anymore. Either i'm right or either i'm wrong and we all got wiser!

Given u just installed the OS, and it is exactly 2 times 11GB, it would seem to me that it could be plausible that slot A and slot B both have the same copy of the os consisting out of 11GB.

I know the stock OS is mostly big due to the AI models directly stored in the operating system.
GrapheneOS doesn't include these. But it is likely that GrapheneOS either leaves the AI partition intact or it zeroes it. Either way, unless it is in super, it can't be resized so it is stuck.
On Pixel 9 hardware and older, as well as the upcoming Motorola Signature, this should be a lot smaller, maybe 6 GB or so.

Thanks for the replies.

The Google Pixel 10 is new and just out the box before I installed GOS.
I do not have any other profiles setup.

I done a factory reset and I noticed something unusual after the factory wipe.

--wiping data ...
ERROR: recovery: [libfs_mgr] Failed to open / sys/fs/fs2s/features/liner lookup: Permission Denied
ERROR: logwrapper: Cannot log to file /dev/fscklogs/log

I've attached photos. Can someone please explain what the above means?
