GrapheneOS phone calls, voicemail, and disabling the cellular modem.

I'm still new to the world of GrapheneOS so please bear with me.

I think I developed some serious trust issues with iOS and Pixel/Samsung's Airplane mode. I know I should trust it, and to be clear, it could also be user error, but there have been times after a software update or a restart, and then Airplane mode would turn off. I don't know if anyone can say for sure if Airplane mode is truly air tight even when it is on.

So what I want to do is remove the SIM card from iOS and the other Android devices. I'll just use GrapheneOS for all voice calls. I do prefer to be on WiFi whenever possible. I'm assuming the WiFi calling experience is the same on GOS as it is on iOS?

I'm reading GOS also has the ability to natively record phone calls. What's is that process like?

Can GOS record voicemails on to the phone like how iOS can? If not, what is GOS' integration with voicemail like?

Is it possible to disable the modem with GOS, but still use the SIM for WiFi calls?

Removing the SIM card does not stop cellular connections nor tracking. The only way to disable the cellular modem is to enable Airplane Mode.

There is a button when you're in the call.

sappy_junior728 WiFi calling works (if your carrier supports it) - I use it all the time.

I dont know how iOS records calls, but on GrapheneOS you tap a button on the call screen. It saves it locally. There's a setting if you want to change the file format.

Removing the SIM does not disable cellular. Airplane mode is the correct way to disable cellular and doesn't prevent using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Airplane mode works correctly on all devices supported by GrapheneOS. Not having a SIM doesn't disable cellular.

The cellular radio is an unprivileged, isolated component which is set up by the OS at boot and doesn't transmit/receive anything until the OS activates it. Airplane mode properly disables cellular radio transmit/receive including in early boot.

The cellular model in the supported devices is not controlled by the cellular network or carriers. It's configured by the OS including choosing which protocols and features are active or whether it's active at all. Airplane mode works correctly, as does configuring the preferred network mode.

How does GOS handle Visual Voicemail? Any way to save VMs onto my phone like on iOS?

You might need your carrier's app for it.

On aosp phone and google phone it lists the contact, date, time, duration.

Transcription might work with google phone and google voice synthesis.

Files are saved as .amr audio files. Look for "send to" or "share" then pick you file manager app.
