Everyone is telling that a desktop browser is a better option than a mobile one. And that mullvad browser is the best privacy one if you can't or don't want to use tor. And that MacOS is the most secure desktop OS. So I was thinking about getting a Mac.
Unfortunately, I can't look at a pixel phone because of pwm flickering and the pixel tablet isn't good enough for my eyes. MacBook displays work for me, but using a non-GOS device online doesn't feel compelling.
Currently, I'm using a MacBook offline only.
So I was thinking about which Mac to get: M1 at least. Are there reasons (security wise) to go with a newer SoC?
I wouldn't use Apple ID, I'd use a VPN and lulu firewall. For all private stuff like fotos etc. I'd use my offline macbook.
Is it a privacy problem to get a used one from a refurbished store? Because I can't get one without handing out were I live and who I am.
To get one with edu discount in an apple store requires ID too. Can apple track me when I buy the device with edu discount?
I would love to stay on macOS 14 Sonoma, because it has no apple ai stuff, as long i can. It's still supported but are there any security downsides? Does it get all the patches that macos26 gets? (When an older macbook like m1 is fine)
What else is to consider?

P.S. pixel tablet in desktop mode with external display etc. isn't a useful option for me.
