Our car (Renault Captur, 2018) has an entertainment system providing Bluetooth connection for mobile phones. However, if one wants to connect to its Android Auto subsystem, a USB wired connection is required. Many car entertainment systems require a wired connection for Android Auto, which are really are not very reliable, loosing connection with every bump in de road.
Recently I became aware of Wireless Carplay/Android Auto adapters that plug into the USB port to provide a wireless bluetooth/wifi connection between phone and car entertainment system. So I purchased one.
While setting it up, I ran into an old familiar issue with apps on Android Auto that I forgot about.
If you want apps to be available in Android Auto, then these definitely need be installed from the Google Pay Store.
I had Here navigation installed from the Play Store and it became available within Android Auto with no fuss.
I also had CoMaps on my phone, but installed through Obtainium, which is why it did not become available in Android Auto.
After I had removed this and reinstalled it from the Play Store, it became available in Android Auto as well.
Now I've got up-to-date navigation apps as an alternative to the in-car navigation with outdated maps, and I can play music from the phone using RiPlay.
