Best Launcher for GrapheneOS?

I am curious to look into customizing my home and lock screen if possible extremely with widgets and stuff but my only concern is the security and the privacy of the app?

Would these launchers have access to the text appearing such as when i get a message notification?

Yes, launchers can read and manage notifications. Try to stick with something trusted and preferably open source. Keep only the absolutely necessary permissions. If you can revoke network access it's even better.

I've tried most of the available open source launchers and while none are as polished as the stock GOS one, Lawnchair gets pretty close and has many customization options. You can easily build your own version if you need to too. I did that to enable pinning private space apps to the homescreen (FYI I managed to do that in the stock launcher too from desktop mode, so now I've stopped using Lawnchair).

AlanZ Disgusting behaviour constantly calling developer work around topics on the forum as insufficient when you don't even use the OS (as you have admitted previously). The default launcher and alternatives not being to your taste does not mean they are trash, and no piece of software is without bugs. I hope you discard this miserable behaviour soon.

IR76 security and the privacy of the app

I use the default launcher since the blur is nice to look at for me. But I have also used Lawnchair a lot, it works well. I am not aware of any security or privacy concerns other than occasional glitches with app switcher, but that is an Android problem, not GOS. It is worth mentioning that I use all launchers without internet permission or all files permission.

mmobder This is what I'm trying to figure out what exactly do they need and have access to.

I'm seeing if anyone has had experience and understands how it works.

Worse case I'll customise what I can with the Graphene Launcher.

kachelkaiser IIRC there was somewhere you could pin an app to the taskbar. Try right clicking on the app icon or on the window title bar.

Currently using the rather new Dragon Launcher: https://github.com/Elnix90/Dragon-Launcher . Not to everyone's taste, and still very actively in development, but its approach works well for my use patterns and it's FOSS.

Security-wise, I just don't grant them network permissions, like I do with any app that doesn't specifically need it.

kachelkaiser Yeah, it's only possible in desktop mode. After that you can switch it off and the change persists. I accidentally discovered this and it's super helpful because otherwise I'd have to scroll to the bottom of the app drawer to reach my most used messaging app.

AlanZ The GOS team refuse to improve the default launcher, so we really don't have good options.

The GOS launcher, untill now, it's the only launcher I found that manages correctly main profile, work profile and private space without any issues.

One could argue it might lack some personalization options, like importing icons or the like, but I would say these features are somewhat unnecessary (as in superfluous).

TBH, I think Stock GOS launcher is the best you could have right now, in terms of performance/features.

Importing icons is really not that important, I agree, but at the very least the launcher could gain dynamically scalable icons and numbered notification dots.

What kind of version people use for Lawnchair? Everything else does not update freqvently but nightly. So how can I download nightly and how to update it? Is it possible via Obtainium? Lawnchair seems to be only good option to try but it is somehow odd how to get it. I dont think I should get 15 beta since it does not get updates often.

Is there other options that will update and progress freqvently? Kvaesitso hasnt updated since 2024. Are launchers somehow "complete" since many of them has updates so rarely like this and Lawnchair 15?
