TorVPN & GOS

Winston

Does anyone use TorVPN? I thought this was a good video about it:

If you do, are there any special configurations you have? I feel like there will be a good way to optimize its use in conjunction with GOS, e.g. disabling its connection for some system apps

Winston not yet, as big warning "it's still in testing, use at your own risk" makes me want to wait a bit)

Winston

DeletedUser728 yeah. My guess is it will remain in beta for awhile. Im happy they pushed it out though.

Novaliss

It seems like it is working to some extent at least.

Novaliss i cant view the image. But yeah TorVPN works, its in beta in large part as a disclaimer i imagine.

I rely on Tor, and its services and use it within Tails on a daily basis, almost exclusively for years.
I tried the Tor VPN, but on a second laptop and it worked perfectly.
However I take the warning its in Beta and should not be relied upon seriously.
I await its launch.
Hopefully, it will not be as big a power hog like Orbot is.

Thanks mate, then Imgur wasn't broken from this device.🙂

yep, in a separate profile, where are no google services enabled or any non-foss apps. It works great, speed is in level to watch YT videos in FHD without problems 85% of the time. But, as devs are saying, it is in beta, so no dark deals and private things while in beta.
There also built in bridges, and even a bot, that gives you new bridges here and now. that's so cool

I usw Orbot and the only change I made to its settings was turning on isolation of destination addresses

Winston

DeletedUser639 i thought it was android-only; or was that just when it first was released?

DeletedUser699 awesome. You running it with default settings? Edit: system-wide/all apps?

DeletedUser699

Winston yeah

My mistake, I typed laptop and should have typed phone. I apologise,

Ignorant_Cormorant

I used it pretty regularly, but today I woke up and could not connect to the Tor network with Tor VPN 1.6.0beta.

Tor Browser worked, Orbot worked, InviZible Pro worked, Proton VPN worked.

Tor VPN was failing system-wide in multiple secondary profiles, and only a reboot solved the issue.

No clue what was going on, so leaving a report here in case someone encounters this in the future.

See here: https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/33500-vpn-issue-at-android/4

The GrapheneOS project is aware of this and it is not a leak issue, but rather a bug issue which is an annoyance that can be fixed (as you noted) by a reboot. They are working towards determining the cause of the issue.

Thank you, I was not aware of this.

I see two differences, however:

Firstly, I did not upgrade Tor VPN in the last 10 days.

Secondly, the solution mentioned on the issue tracker:

Switching to another VPN profile (make sure it is established) and then reconnect using the original, previously faulty, VPN.

Did not fix my problem.

I don't believe the issue is encountered only when upgrading the VPN.

A few weeks back my VPN stopped working in my Private Space, I tried changing servers, locking/unlocking Private Space, and the only solution that worked was a reboot.
