Do I need an alternative App Store?

I’m running GOS on a Px8. I need to have access to play store because my bank has a use condition on its app that I must only install it from play store (or the iOS equivalent). Given that I already have play store is there any advantage in using an alternative such as F-droid to install apps that are available on play store?

In the case where you are already using Play Store, it is definitely recommended to get your other apps from there when you can.

Emseedee Yes, F-Droid repo have strict policy that limit any kind of trackers by apps submitted, which could have been in the Play Store version.

Emseedee if that's the only app that requires store/services, then yes, there is still advantage of using f-droid (basic) or alike. But you may make it even better if play store/services and bank app are moved into Private Space (if available). Thus Play store will not be able inform Google about set of FOSS apps you're using (profiling, fingerprinting, etc), if it's of any importance for you.

F-Droid has severe security issues and should be avoided if you're concerned about security. It uses keys managed by F-Droid themselves and has outdated build infrastructure.
