Not recieving SMS with Airplane Mode

I unfortunately need to use SMS for a few things and I only realize I didn't recieve any messages after I disable Airplane mode. This is on a Pixel 8 and I recieve messages just fine with Airplane mode disabled. It also fails to send SMS with Airplane mode enabled and I have to press retry a couple times to get it to send. I can make calls just fine but I probably miss calls and just haven't noticed. I see many people use Airplane mode seemingly just fine but I would like to know if anyone else has run into these issues and if there are any settings that I should change. Thanks.

You realize the point of airplane mode is to disable the cellular modem (and optionally WiFi), right?

The only way to make or receive calls or SMS in airplane mode is via Voice (or SMS) over WiFi.

Your carrier needs to support that (most do, but not all). And you have to have it enabled in settings for your SIM (seems to usually be enabled automatically, but may not always).

If you think it should be working but it isn't, your best bet is probably to contact your carrier.

Hello again! Yes I do know what Airplane mode does. Wifi calling is enabled and my carrier supports it too. Are there any other SIM settings I should have?

Other than the obvious "Use WiFi calling", IDK.

That's why I say you should probably contact your carrier.

Couldn't hurt to double check this

settings > network & internet > sims > your sim > carrier settings override

Check for
WiFi calling (default = available)
