Bricked upon 2nd Private Space login attempt

Phone has been working fine for almost two years now, just setup Private Space a few months ago after seeing Side of Burritos mention that its unbrickable and all of a sudden after trying to type in my PIN to access my Private Space, the screen blacked out and became unresponsive then rebooted saying unable to load Android Operating System, if you see this message your data is likely corrupted.
I only have the option to Reboot or Factory Reset. I was able to access Rescue Mode and from there go to Fastboot but I've already rebooted several times and now waiting for it to reach full charge.
Phone was at 25%, now at 100%.
Not sure what to do once I access Rescue Menu, the Fastbootd menu only offers reboot system, enter recovery, reboot bootloader and power off.
I typed the PIN wrong the first time and halfway into typing it a second time, it froze. I've only accessed the Private Space maybe twice before.

Don't use a feature without familiarizing yourself and understand how it work.

Did you set up a Duress PIN? Maybe you put that in.
Check out this Side of Burritos video, what you describe sounds like what happens in this case.

VehicularClatter298 I did but I don't remember that PIN and I didn't enter it. I was only allowed one attempt and then after it failed i almost tried a second time, i got two digits into the PIN before it froze.

I'm a systems administrator & It blows my mind that trying to access Private Space with the wrong pin and confusing it with Duress PIN that it immediately wipes my device, even after Private Space detects that a wrong PIN was used.

I don't have a SIM PIN and most likely got my duress PIN and Private Space PIN mixed up and now I've mistakenly wiped my phone including all of my crypto, eSIM and authenticator codes trying to access a new feature on this phone that I haven't acclimated to. Also unable to access my emails or discord now because every fucking thing requires a 2FA or MFA!

6 years of mining crypto down the drain, I will never buy another phone again nor purchase another crypto coin again! This is the fourth time I've lost all my crypto!

It's actually a very smart feature and is documented on the Official GrapheneOS website in full detail: https://grapheneos.org/features#duress

GrapheneOS provides users with the ability to set a duress PIN/Password that will irreversibly wipe the device (along with any installed eSIMs) once entered anywhere where the device credentials are requested (on the lockscreen, along with any such prompt in the OS).

This is why it is important to read the documentation and understand these features before using them. Otherwise you end up screwing yourself over.

You intentionally enabled Duress PIN.

It is not on by default.
The OS never suggests enabling it.
During it's setup you are told exactly what Duress PIN does.
It warned you it's purpose is for intentional irrecoverable data deletion.

Take some responsibility. I have not an ounce of respect or sympathy for you after your remarks about the developers.

Oggyo idk why this is allowed to be executed in Private Space to begin with. That's what I was referring to in the Duress feature. I expected I can try again with a different PIN 9 more times while in Private Space before Duress could even activate. From what I remember, it was supposed to take 10 attempts.

Where did you read/hear this? This is definitely not the case. This sounds like you are mistaking this feature for that of Google's Factory Reset Protection: https://support.google.com/android/answer/9459346?hl=en-GB

For Seedvault? Yes you can use that to restore from a backup (still limited in what is restored/backed up) so long as you chose a cloud drive or USB drive to store the .Seedvaultbackup folder. If you stored that folder locally on your GrapheneOS device then you are SOL.

Make the Duress PIN requirement longer than the Private Space PIN, that way this doesn't happen to someone else who forgets their private space pin and mixes up with duress. Maybe add a note once you enter Private Space that Duress PIN can trigger data corruption before you're allowed to enter the PIN!

SnapDragon Such a note somewhat defeats the whole purpose of a duress pin. You set it up and it states very clear on the setup screen exactly how it works. You are the only one to blame here for not reading instructions and not to have proper backups. There are many ways to backup your stuff, don't put all your burrden on GrapheneOS devs for protecting your data. What a silly and outrageous rant.

Could you imagine being a System Administrator for a company. And a server that is 100% under your responsibility suffers a catastrophic failure. Then can you imagine you, the System Administrator, going to your boss and telling him or her that all the data on that server was forever lost and you don't have a backup of anything.

crazysally happens all the time, which i was surprised after 2 years that the backup process hasn't been improved upon for GOS. luckily i kept a backup of my contacts, wallets etc from when I migrated from Apple in 2024.
