Screencasting to TV

If any of you out there are screen casting to your TV how so? I am using a J5Create and I just figured out my TV also has Anycast.
I do have google play services installed and I enabled nearby devices on play store and play service. Do I need the google home app? YouTube does work for screen casting.

My idea here is to see if I can screen cast to the TV so I could use Hulu or prime video and control it via my TV. Maybe use it like I do on my laptop via web browser as it blocks ads. Then I do have to use the computer on the TV in my bedroom or laptop in the living room and simplify to one device.

Just want to see if this is possible, if not in the future I don't have a problem getting some kind of stock device and really just use it for this purpose.

Why don't you just try the apps you need? As you already have found out Youtube works without the Home app. Vanadium doesn't let you sreencast. Firefox did the last time I tried.

schweizer I don't think Firefox screen-cast anymore but wouldn't be surprised if I could find an extension to do that. Hulu has one problem in itself, I think they got rid of the hulu app and trying to merge into Disney+.
I have an old spotify plan that included hulu with ads. If I use it in a browser with ublock origin no ads lol. I think the same with Prime video.
So I'm just seeing what I could do with my phone and GOS. If not maybe I just need a stock device.

AFAIK websites can decide to block screencasting. So before you link the problem to GOS make sure it works from a laptop.

schweizer I have no problem with screencast with my laptop. I will try the screencast from edge. But at least the just mirroring my display on the laptop via both the any cast built in the TV work and J5Create.
My phone comes up with no devices found. I did enable nearby devices on play store and services. I searched google and this discussion forum and it seems many other have had this issues. So I'm leaning towards not even a GOS problem probably an AOSP. My youtube app works. But oddly the prime video app doesnt.
My parents have an old chromecast I may stop by the house this weekend if I get a chance and give it a whirl on a chromecast.

Correct, it is a known issue. Considered Chromecast is a privacy concern have you tried using your TV as a external monitor by connecting it with a cable?

schweizer I had a feeling, funny thing is google ai overview even points this out on my last search. Screen mirroring often fails (system level ) but app based casting usually works.
I do not have a cable that I can use to test that out. For what I was planning to accomplish here, that would be one really long cable I would need. TV to the couch or TV from the bed.
I may just have to pick up a device with Stock OS just for my purpose. I was considering that already. I had a few things in mind. Used pixel tab, lenovo tab one, alldocube, even wait and pick up 2 pixel 10a one as my new phone with GOS and one stock.

schweizer I have one more idea I was thinking about. Not sure if you would know the answer. Is there a potential for my idea here to work if I use the Google Home app?

This is great! I was not aware of it. However as it seems it only works from Laptop to TV not from any Android thus not GOS. When I mirrored my laptop screen I had no sound on the Chromecast/TV.

I was going to try the google home app, but then I found this link on the os tracker from a google search.

Seems like audio though is the problem. Which I think was still an issues on some of the older post I have found.
