Reolink camera app with ProtonVPN not allowing connection to camera

I have a Pixel 9a with GrapheneOS and ProtonVPN. If I enable the VPN with "block connections without VPN", then the Reolink app can't connect to the camera (E1 Pro). If I disable "block connections without VPN" in the VPN settings, then the app will connect to the camera. I have only tried access from the local wifi where the camera is connected.

For comparison, I have an iPhone 11 running iOS 26.2.1 with the same ProtonVPN account, and the iOS Reolink app will connect to the camera, even with the VPN's Kill Switch enabled to prevent split tunneling.

Any suggestions? How would this be able to connect to the camera once I'm off the local wifi network that is shared with the camera?

That's strange. I also have ProtonVPN and Reolink NVR with multiple cams. I don't have any problems. The only app that I have excluded from VPN is Home Assistant. Have you checked your NVR settings?

grapheine No NVR, just a camera connected to wifi.
