Camera app rotating screen on zoom

Hi, when I zoom in too far, the camera app switches the image (and any pictures taken) 90 degrees, and doesn't switch it back when I zoom out... the only fix is to close and reopen the app.

How do I stop this from happening?

Im on the OG pixel fold.

It might be hardware issue, same thing happened on google ROM.

This issue occurs with Pixel Camera and the stock Pixel OS as was pointed out in wallu. We've seen reports of the issue with the stock OS elsewhere. It isn't clear if it's a hardware issue or a software issue. Even if it is a hardware issue, it may be fixed by a future software update working around it.

Thought it was just me. Have the exact same issue. Annoying as hell. Graphene OS issue? Or Google?

Same issue on my fold. It looks like when the zoom gets to about 2x and it flips. It is the same whether it is open or closed, but not when using selfie camera

I posted this the other day:

The Camera App used to work fine, but suddenly one day it went crazy. Any clues on how to get my old camera app back. I tried to re-install it, but since it's part of the OS you can't uninstall it." but that conversation was locked with a link here, fine.

But I only see others with the same problem but no fixes. Especially that the tracking of the image on screen is messed up as well seems a serious problem. Since there doesn't seem to be ANY feedback from GOS or developers, can anyone recommend an alternative app. Google camera locks you into their cloyd to use it. Terrible situation, the camera is one of the main features users and manufacturers focus on. One would this OS devs would as well.

3rdReconDoc It's not caused by GrapheneOS Camera or by GrapheneOS. It occurs with Pixel Camera on the stock Pixel OS too. It can potentially be solved with a hardware replacement since it only appears to happen for a subset of users rather than everyone, which means it's likely tied to the hardware. It's not necessarily a hardware fault as it could be a variant of the hardware components with the issue which could potentially be worked around in software.

Pixel Camera doesn't in any way force you to use their cloud. If you mean the gallery button opening Google Photos, there's an app which can be used as an alternative to Google Photos for it and Google Photos can also be used locally without their cloud. You can use app-photosonly-release.apk from https://github.com/lukaspieper/Gcam-Services-Provider/releases instead of Google Photos. Don't use either of the other 2 variants on GrapheneOS, those aren't needed and may cause problems.

Just to put my experience in, I installed GrapheneOS on my original fold yesterday, and it had the 90 degree issue with the grapheneos camera. I installed pixel camera, it no longer has this issue.
