I've just installed Grapheneos after watching the video of Luis Rossmann pitching the privacy features. He mentioned that Google is tracking your location most of the time, and GrapheneOs is a step in the right direction on preventing that.
I would like to prevent Google from tracking my location at all times, but I would also like to use Google Maps. I know that while I'm using Google maps, there is unlikely any way to keep Google from knowing my location, but once I close Google Maps I don't want to give any more location information to Google.
While looking at the FAQ, I have read about the GSMCompat layer that can be used instead of Google's offering. But I don't know what this actually means. Does this only prevent the bluetooth and wifi scanning at all times, but still provide GPS, can this shut down providing any information depending on what app has access?
Forgive the rambling, I'm not quite sure what jargon to use or even if what I am asking is possible, but I'd like to disconnect from being tracked at all times, yet still having the option to use Google Maps whenever I manually open it.
Thanks in advance for any help or clarification.
