In need of advice.

Greetings everyone, I'm currently running GOS on a Pixel 9a. I'm very impressed with all the extra features and I can't imagine using anything else.

Unfortunately I'm having problems with notifications showing up only once in a while or not showing up at all.

I'm not heavy on apps, WhatsApp, banking, Molly and a few web apps.

I'm considering wiping my phone clean and start from scratch again, but that'd be my very last option tbh.

Now I'm asking you for any advice or tips on what to try or do before doing a factory reset, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Notifications are usually carried by the Google Play infrastructure. If you haven't installed it, then it is "normal" that they don't come to these apps. Some apps like Molly-FOSS use the UnifiedPush system for the notifications, you might look at it, but the "mainstream" apps don't.

You might have to set unrestricted battery usage for the apps to always run in the background to receive updates/notifications

Or as eirik mentioned, install google play services from the app called "app store"

Johnnyloans Eirikr is an ancient form of Eric in Old Norish. The final "r" remains in Icelandic (Arnaldur, Sigurdur, Olafur) although it has disappeared in the other Scandinavian modern languages (which by the way makes them easier to pronounce).
