Auto update how it works?

I had question how to set updates to manual because my wifi was detected as unmetered but it is limited. Here is only one option to disable System Updater app. It works i can now control when to install update. Of course i wanted to have notifications about updates but it is beter than force update.

I was thinking how exactly working Auto updates?
If is here unmetered wifi could smartphone download at lockscreen download update -> Install it when at lockscreen and then auto reboot / manual reboot will it boot to new system partition?

Teoreticaly if someone will have right signing keys and host self update server at local network + DNS resolve to this update server with self compiled system. Will smartphone with grapheneos install this custom os automatically at lockscreen?

Did you see the options in Settings > System > System updates ? You can stall it based on battery level, charging status, and network connection

settings > system > sytem updates > permitted networks > unmetered

Settings > network > Internet (wifi) >
1) if connected to the wifi network, tap gear next to wifi name > network usage > treat as metered
2) if changing Wifi's you are not connected to, scroll down to 'saved networks' > pick a wifi name > network usage > metered. (Repeat #2 for all Wifis to change)

userofgos Thank you for answer but what i wanted was option to only notify that update is available not to try restrict it, disabling whole app give control but no notitications but it works fine.
Here i wanted only know of force updates work too when device is locked (if update app is enabled)

Not possible and I doubt GrapheneOS devs would allow that.

You can disable System Updater and set App Store to use manual updates but you shouldn't do that. Instead, you should configure the network to be metered. If you're talking about a Wi-Fi network that's a setting for the network.
