Eumenia You can compare the usability of a phone which can be pulled quick to do something and doesn't require any thing to be placed on with even small laptops.
You have to remeber that the OP stated the only way they sought to mitigate the LPP-protocol was to turn the phone off.
so how more useable is a phone switched off to a laptop thats also switched off whilst you seek WiFi.
When you have useable WiFi, turn your laptop on and away you go, bigger screen, keboard etc and no worrysome modem to worry about. So the only way to avoid the LPP-protocol is not to turn your phone off, there is another and not have a phone with you!
