New install on Pixel 6 - Playstore perpetually "You're offline"

Hi there everyone,

I've got an install less than an hour old on a Pixel 6. I used the play store to successfully install a variety of apps, one of which was adguard. After about 10 app installs, Play store just persisted at thinking it's offline. I disabled adguard, restarted phone, force-closed the play store but nothing I tried works. Could anyone suggest something I can do to get it working again?

Did you recently buy a pixel 6? It might not get updates after 7 months.

A bit more testing, I also notice that apps like "The Weather Channel" just do the startup spinning icon indefinitely, perhaps because it's trying to connect to the play network and it can't as the play store still thinks it's offline.

Do you have block connections without VPN enabled? If so try turning that off.

Thank you both very much! I have done a ton of testing and disabling the adguard vpn isn't sufficient. I have to actually uninstall Adguard on the phone and only then Play store immediately begins working again.

Either having an app on the phone that can create a VPN or something adguard app is doing is breaking the sandboxed playstore install.

Would either of you happen to have any experience with running an app like this that creates a local VPN while still being able to use the playstore?

Turn off vpn, don't use a custom DNS even if its on the router, make sure play store still has network permission, reinstall play store app

Adguard is filtering DNS queries so it is blocking a google website. So turn adguard down to safe/mild blocking instead of aggressive/maximum blocking. Or however it is phrased. Or you can select lists you want and 1 or more have the google website blocked for playstore

schwim I have never used an app for dns filtering. you dont have to use an app for it just set the private dns in settings to dns.adgard.com or use nextdns. Since i use a vpn service i set the private dns to off to use the vpn providers dns server, mostly vpn providers comes with an adblocking with their dns.

I use nextdns with HaGeZi - Multi PRO++ blocklist for my parents, everything works and they dont even know they have it, also you can see what are the domains being blocked and allowed in realtime, i never used adguard so not sure if they have it.

userofgos It seems, so. I started finding docs relating to Graphene suggesting not to use these apps for various reasons and to install Rethink instead for ad blocking. That's what I ended up doing.

That makes me wonder why my Adguard app with the same settings don't cause a problem with the playstore on this 6 running stock Android or my Pixel 9.

My 6 is my old phone that I wanted to test Graphene with. If I feel confident about it, I'll install it on my 9 and use that. This poses a question though, does Graphene provide security or bug fixes for these phones once Google ceases support or do they both end at the same time?
