Hello,
I am using GrapheneOS on a Pixel 8.
Since Android 16, newly installed apps are not automatically added to the home screen.
The option for this is enabled in the launcher settings, but it does not work.
With every new GrapheneOS update, I test this again, but the issue is still present.
The latest update 2026012800 was installed recently.
After the update, I powered the phone off completely, waited a moment, and then powered it on again.
I installed a random app to test — no home screen shortcut was created.
I already mentioned this issue in a previous comment. Someone suggested clearing the launcher cache, which fixed the problem temporarily, but after some time the issue returned.
Today I noticed something unusual:
When my battery level dropped below 20%, Battery Saver was enabled automatically.
I then disabled Battery Saver manually, and immediately a home screen shortcut appeared for an app that I had installed a few days earlier.
After that, I enabled Battery Saver again, installed another app, and now it works correctly — new apps are added to the home screen automatically.
I will now wait under the same conditions and test this again to see if the behavior is reproducible.
Does anyone know why Battery Saver affects launcher behavior, or if this is a known Android 16 / GrapheneOS issue?
Thanks.
