Fingerprint reader gone haywire

When I got the Pixel 6a I never even used it before loading Graphene. After loading Graphene the fingerprint sensoe worked fine.

Then after I got a screen protector it still worked fine for about a day but then went haywire. I researched and was told to increase the fingerprint sensitivity but that hasnt helped.

Its just very strange that at first it worked for a bit. The screen protected is definitely not even scratched in the least.

Am I just going to have to decide between using a screen protector and fingerprint?

I have a screen protector on my Pixel 6 and the fingerprint reader works fine.

Using those privacy screen protectors doesn't work, from what I've heard.

After adding the screen protector, you need to re-enroll your fingerprint. If you did and it's still acting up, you might still need to re-enroll your fingerprint. I find myself doing that every few months. Some people say they get better results if they enroll the same finger twice. Maybe you can try that.

Yeah I deleted the fingerprint and tried to add, like 5 times and couldnt get it to complete the add before it timed out. it just wouldnt accept it; just very strange that at first everything worked great for a bit.

Given what you said and agreeing with MetropleX here, it's hard to troubleshoot this kind of thing.

You can try the following to help you determine what the issue is:

Double check your phone is completely up to date (Settings > About phone. Build number should end with 2023012500)
Try restarting your phone to see if that helps.
Remove the screen protector. If fingerprint works, it was the screen protector.
If it still doesn't work, do a factory reset. If that fixes the issue, something strange happened.
If it still doesn't work, you might have a hardware problem. I'd suggest having your phone looked at at an authorized repair place.

Many on this forum have 6a phones. Considering the OS is the same across phones of the same model and build number, factory resets pretty much completely rule out software issues.

Honestly, there are so many screen protectors of varying types and quality, all installed with varying degrees of success and skill, it would be hard for GrapheneOS to offer support, hence the change from General to Off-Topic.
