Restore backup from USB during initial setup

Looks like there is literally no way to restore anything from backup during initial setup of GrapheneOS:

copying data from another device over USB is not an option
device itself doesn't contain any data
USB drive is not detected (I guess for security reasons and there is no way to change that without completing initial setup)
Nextcloud is not yet installed, let alone configured

So in the end the screen is technically there, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Am I missing something or there is some work planned in this department?

From the dialer type *#*#7378673#*#*. That should start the recovery for you.

Hm... going into backup settings afterwards it asks me to save the recovery phrase, there is no option to enter my own and recover from earlier backup either...
I understand people have to do this once, but it is quite annoying. I was already mentally prepared that I don't have root to just restore everything quickly and easily and SeedVault backed up without errors only tiny fraction of stuff for me, but there are even more hoops to go through apparently.

Consider this as a feature request/new user feedback.

Yeah, I somehow forgot I was reading that in wiki.

Turns out USB drive needs to be formatted as FAT32 MBR, I had FAT32 GPT with EFI flag on it. Re-formatting made USB available, but for some reason SeedVault doesn't see its own backups and when I click to start backup it does literally nothing visually 😞

Odd. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Seedvault other than the basics. Maybe check their wiki or look through past issues in their issue tracker? I'd imagine having the backup folder in the root of the drive should be enough for it to work.

unwat I saw in one of the issues that 11-2.3 version of SeedVault is supposedly an old one and much newer with fixes should be available. According to https://github.com/seedvault-app/seedvault/blob/eebeff90ff8784a1e4ef6c4c7329ce292e362639/app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml#L6 13-3.3 is what GrapheneOS should be using instead.

I am also trying to do this trying to do this from a fresh Pixel8...
It doesn't recognize a backup from Pixel4a, is a restore actualy possible?
