Pixel 9a battery draining way too fast

Novalissoide yeah i probably should set it up like that, but the fact that my old 6a had double the battery life than my 9a in the first few months (both GOS) is baffling, it had even more apps and more backround usage and 500mAh less and the EXACT same user setup.

I'm used to stuff giving me headaches and requiring a lot of monitoring and tweaking as i use DB with only Qubes and Arch on my laptop, but this is just something else entierly for me😂😂

One way of looking at this is, consider the battery capacity being almost as large in P6a vs P9a, but the latter got much more 'horsepower' and more features to run. The hardware is getting more effective with new generations, but the new things it performs, not least for security makes the real mileage outcome still a user setup-dependent thing.

Novalissoide thanks for all the help, it's been a full day since i started doing everything mentioned here and it's been a lot better. Still not as good as people say it should be or compared to stock (like 2 days) but i defo got AT LEAST 4+ hours in battery life.

I am surprised nobody mentions brightness. The Series 9 phones have much brighter screens than their predecessors. This makes it possible to see something even in bright sunlight. With the older models, you couldn't see anything on a glacier in sunlight, even at the brightest setting.
I wouldn't be surprised if the battery was 50% empty after two hours at the brightest setting. Check your brightness setting and see if that's the reason.

schweizer I never had either adaptive brightness nor HDR on, just kept it at around 50% constantly all the time

By chance are you using Wifi or Bluetooth scanning?

chester no, i always have them turned off except for when I'm home and enabled them to turn off after 30 sec for when I leave.

My biggest change in battery consumption came from switching 5G to LTE only mode in the owner settings. But still my 8a can only just last a day

Tobskili it's understandable for an 8a, but the 9a is said to have the best battery from the whole pixel series and it still lasts less than my old 6a when i first bought it (both GOS) 😂

benzo301 Quick update

Right now with 4G/LTe only and EVERY possible battery saving trick mentioned here and everywhere I could find around the internet, and absolutely nothing running in the backround, it still lasts less than a day with around 8h screentime max. Brand new Pixel 9a at 14 cycles.. I really can't figure it out at this point, with all of this it should last a lot longer, there are people who don't use any of those things and use the phone heavily and still get 2 days of battery without issues, just like i get on stock. I really don't get it, tried every possible thing, the only reason I'm still on GOS is Cellebrite and state-mandated surveillence.

But still, thanks for all the help, maybe I will figure it out somehow.
