How to enable sms for find my device

Hi there, I'm trying to secure my device a bit more from theft so I've been installing a few things like private lock and FMD (find my device) from F droid. Private lock works fine after requesting admin app access (which AFAIK grants it super user level perms, similar to google android apps on stock android).

However, when I try to set up FMD it never asks for admin app access. When I try to manually grant it SMS access I get a prompt that says "App was denied access - access to this permission can put your personal financial info at risk" - is there any way to force grant the SMS permission without rooting my device?

I am on Graphene OS 2026011301. FMD version 0.13.0.

Pay more attention to details - on the very AOSP screen that tells you it's blocked, there is a link to Google guide how to enable it,from what I recall after numerous installations of fmd

I did read that, but the actual useful part is hidden off the bottom of the screen so I'll repeat it here for anybody else stuck and so you don't have to paste this:

On your Android device, open the Settings app.
Tap Apps.
Tap the app that you want to turn on a restricted setting for.
    Tip: If you can't find it, first tap See all apps or App info.
Tap More and then Allow restricted settings.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
