Now imagine everytime you miss a link with a bad tap and you tap twice and you lock your screen /:

Double tap is also something applications can use, and some of them do (an easy example, some apps use it to zoom), it would break an essential part of the touch "api" (i cannot come with a better term right now, sorry).

Would be nice to have but pushing the power button does it too 🤔

I would vote for double tap to wake the screen. Single tap just wakes up screen when touced accidentally, especially the finger sensor area.

Have you considered using a 3rd party launcher like Lawnchair or Nova that support the double tap to turn off gesture?
