Background
• I live of grid using solar with 12v lithium batteries.
• Around 5 years ago I got rid of my 12v TV as I never watched it as only watch YouTube and Amazon prime video on my laptop (Linux user)
• 2 years ago ish I bought a Pixel tablet using GOS to replace my laptop. ( I still use both )
• Last year I bought a portable external monitor to cast/usbc to usbc but didn’t realise till after i bought it that only the p8 and above do this.
Other things Ive tried
• Amazon fire stick plugged into the external monitor with VPN and with Fcast receiver installed from Futo and using Grayjay on my Pixel Tablet. Also I removed the microphone from the remote also (don’t ask). This all worked out well but using a fire stick is something im not happy about.
• Ive tried LibreElec and OSMC using a raspberry pi. However watching YouTube just does not work.
Where im at now
I was given a 2019 MacBook pro 16inch last year. At the moment this has been the best solution for my needs.
For example:
• 10 Hour battery life streaming.
• Able to use freetube.
• Able to watch Amazon prime video using brave.
However.. Im not happy with this setup, I don’t or never will trust apple nor want to use there products (I don’t want to get into any discussion about Apple as there are many discussions on here about this already). I use LuLu with most things blocked etc and only use Brave and Freetube. At the moment this is the best solution for me but not what I really want.
What I really want
• FOSS (OS and Apps)
• Something that’s uses low power for my off grid needs (usbc works great for me)
• Something near to what I originally wanted in connecting my tablet to a portable monitor.
• Use my Linux laptop (but not really a option as get a max of 2 hours battery life streaming)
I also have a p7a, so this is not a option, I thought about upgrading to a p9a to connect to my monitor but I like my phone as a phone but could be a option.
So if anyone has any further ideas I would like to hear them.
