Hide photos from Gallery?

As the title says, is there a way to hide certain personal or sensitive photos from the normal gallery?

I understand that with file manager I can move them to a specific directory, but Google photos for example even moves up an album making it even more visible.

You could also move those images (or even videos) you want to hide to a folder which contains an empty file named exactly .nomedia
This will disabling indexing this folder as media by Gallery apps or similar.

Be aware that this does not actually prevent apps from accessing those contents, as far as I'm aware, it merely asks them to ignore the folder, which most modern apps should respect accordingly.

Easy peasy!

Instead of granting full access of media permission to the gallery app of your choice you can use storage scopes function of GrapheneOS. That way the gallery app simply won't have access to these photos. Say, you have Pictures, Movies, DCIM and Wallpapers folders but you don't want to display photos from the Wallpaper folder. So you just use storage scopes and add folders Pictures, Movies and DCIM to the storage scopes.
Most gallery apps have an option to select from which folders to display photos from. You can also change that in there.
Finally some apps like Aves Gallery from Accrescent have a Vault option. That way you can encrypt sensitive photos into the app data accessible only from Aves Gallery and protected with device unlock.

That is indeed helpful. It still means to manually move the files to that folder, but they no longer show in the Photos app.
