Web app notifications in Vanadium

Hi. I have a question concerning web app notifications in Vanadium.

I use web apps mostly for social media platforms like Mastodon. For some content I turned on notifications. I switched on notifications in Vanadium, installed Google stuff in that profile and enabled unrestricted battery for Vanadium but I've never received a single notification.

I'm sure I missed a setting somewhere but I have no clue what else to check. Any advice is highly appreciated.

Phead hmm, you can check if unrestricted battery is enabled for google play services, and if it has the network permission enabled too

Hi.

I have the same problem. no notifications even though notifications are allowed everywhere where you can allow.
I even allowed specific site URI.
In my opinion I should not have to do settings in any Google service to get this to work since it is a native GrapheneOs app. I could be wrong.

Yes, unrestricted battery is enabled and network permission is granted.

I am also trying to get website notifications for MS Outlook so I don't have to install the Outlook email app for work. Brave requires Google Play Services. I was hoping that Vanadium being native would not require Google Play Services, but would still provide notifications. Is this correct?

The following website seems to confirm that the functionality does not work in vanadium. I can authorize the website to share notifications. However, when sending notifications, the browser is unresponsive.

See here, Vanadium does seem to use Firebase Cloud Messaging. So without Google Play Services enabled, you cannot get push notifications through Vanadium. I am very disappointed by this. Maybe there is some technical limitation why this cannot be changed, but for now it appears that Vanadium does indeed require Google Play Services.
