Youtube broken

I'm running YouTube in the browser and it stops playing the video if you lock the screen. This worked on my old phone.

Also, the screen timeout stops videos from playing on new phone only.

I have tried it with multiple browsers and other video sites with the same results, i.e. works on old phone but not new.

Both phones use the latest OS version. I assume/hope this is related to some setting rather than hardware?

hello-gos that's expected behavior in Vanadium. Try Brave Browser, it blocks ads in YouTube and does background playback by default. Not sure if there's a setting you can change in Vanadium to make it work there too...

Alternatively, you can try out apps like Grayjay, Tubular or Libretube which allow you to play and download YouTube videos and come with adblock and even sponsorblock in the settings.

N1b yes, I'm using brave browser which was working with my old phone but not on my new phone.

I know there are other ways to view but trying to figure out why brave is no longer working for me.

Maybe you should start using Tubular for your youtube needs? It has ublock and spornsorblock embedded by default, and other goodnesses

Brave is the way to go.

After some more testing I found that if I set the brave browser to Desktop mode then it works in the background again.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

hello-gos Tubular is Newpipe with Sponsorblock added. As for what's better, you'll have to try and choose for yourself.

Grayjay: Quick patches when Google does countermeasures, many features
Tubular: Intuitive and good workflow
Libretube: Pretty and UI close to official YT app

Personally I ended up on Grayjay, but I'm not stuck there. I choose whatever solution is currently best for me. E.g. if you like true Open Source, Grayjay won't do the job as it's only source available.
