niko-goso X just crashed wanting to use native code debugging. It will be interesting to see if certain apps increase their demand for free range access across Graphene OS as the OS becomes much more popular.
I suspect that if the X app is trying to use native code debugging on GrapheneOS that's because it uses native code debugging on all Android variants, and that the change has nothing to do with the popularity of GrapheneOS. Also, native code debugging is not at all "free range access across GrapheneOS". If the X all were requesting accessibility access or device-admin access that would be much more concerning, but still not the same as system-level access.
niko-goso We already see increased failure to load websites when visiting via VPN. Turning off the VPN loads the site.
If a site believes it experiences a higher rate of negative effects from VPN exit points, perhaps such as more harassing posts, more duplicate accounts, etc., that might lead to rejecting connections from those IP addresses (perhaps especially connections attempting to create new accounts). This seems plausible, if one believes that people engaged in harassment, puppetry, etc., might preferentially use a VPN.
niko-goso When globally federated Digital ID surveillance and enforcement infrastructure hits mainstream we will see widespread rejection of software that does not present an authentic Digital ID. This requirement for authentication via globally federated Digital ID will extend into the OS and at that time the result will be similar to apps crashing because they were designed to refuse to run on privacy and security focused OSes like GOS.
For sure some people harbor dystopian ambitions. Some app authors might choose to require strong identification for all users, and some governments might aim for all Internet use to be individually identifiable. People may well need to hold government officials accountable for actions that would have outcomes.
And meanwhile it may be necessary for some users to quit some social media if their policies seem unreasonable. If the X app seems sufficiently unreasonable, leaving may be worth considering.
