Printer setup

Are you able to configure printer from your phone?Ii have the HP printer, with Android google the HP print app worked well but with graphene, Ive installed the app but can't detects or connect to my printer.

Idea?

James80 I have what sounds like your setup. It works for me.

Actually, your issue may be blocking the printer access to the Internet. I have a feeling printing from your phone goes through HP servers. Choices.

My printers work quite well. I have a CUPS server with avahi/nss-mdns. Nothing special is needed on the phone with this, printing "just works". I couldn't tell you much about hp printer applications, I wouldn't trust it. I don't even trust my two HP printers to access the internet because they like to take firmware updates to block the usage of 3rd party cartridges, so I have my firewall set up to block their access while allowing them to remain accessible on the local network for printing.

pdagenius Keep in mind that I am the one blocking printer access to the internet, I don't think that @James80 said anything about doing that.

No, I have the same thing with my epson.
My mother downloaded the app and it works fine on her phone.
On mine, it doesn't detect the printer either.

I've got a wireless multi-function Brother laser printer/fax/copier and the Brother iPrint&Scan app works perfectly on my 6a. Google Play services, however, is installed in my device.

With my Pixel 7 with GOS I can print on my Epson without any additional software. I just choose a (for example) pdf in stock file manager, press share and choose "print". My network printer will be detected and printing is no problem.

Hey, is it possible to do wired printing on GOS or just wireless? Reason asking is because I don't have a WiFi connection currently (just data) so wireless printing wouldn't work for me.

nandohyphen1 side-note, you don't necessarily need a wifi ap, if your printer supports wifi direct

nandohyphen1 theoretically, it doesn't matter if you're connected to the network by wifi or eth, it's still network, so should work

mmobder I just don't have a WiFi network at all, just cellular data for my phone so I can't connect my printer to it. It has a USB cable for a computer and I have an adapter for my phone to plug my phone right into the printer, but when I tried it it did nothing. If its not possible, its not a big deal (I'll just use my computer) but just thought I'd see if it does work. :)

if the printer offers only USB, then sorry, IDK

mmobder OK that's good to know. Mine has WiFi and USB capabilities. I'm going to keep experimenting. Would you recommend using the print app that comes on GOS or getting the printer manufacturer's app? I have a canon printer.

nandohyphen1 Dunno, I'm using manufacturer's as it's more flexible.
Please keep in mind that if you're using VPN you may need to do extra config for it jot to be routed to vpn

I had to use Private Spaces with Wi-Fi Direct and also install Brother iPrintScan within it. Could not make it work under normal account with Mullvad and local sharing no matter what I tried. Also tried the USB method and I guess my old model also does not work.

Took a fair amount of time to get it going though. Sadly my AIO also does not work with Arch Linux so going to look to get a newer one (probably not too new) at some point anyways. Works with Linux Mint though.

I use RethinkDNS with a WireGuard configuration, and network printing didn't work for me either, even though I allowed internal network traffic, which works for other applications. What does work is selecting the RDNS entry in GOS's network/VPN settings and temporarily disabling the "Block connections without VPN" option for printing.
