Gallery doesnt have storage scopes anymore?

I use them not for security but usability. I filter out bogus/useless folders so it is nice and neat (since the app doesnt have a built in way to unlist albums). Why were they removed? and how can i get their utility back?

broodjeoogbal mine has storage scopes for Gallery. Permissions;

Files
Photos and videos
Music and audio

They all let user do storage scope. Are you sure about you not getting the option?

Novalissoide mine doesn't. I display all the permissions for Gallery, tap Photos and Videos Permission, and see the options grayed out with "Device requires this permission to operate".

I agree it's a pain and a reason for me to NOT use Gallery st all, because it will absolutely display ALL the inconsequential cover images or incons or thumbnails of the backup of the download website.

EVERY image file it can find. And in every folder separately. Kind of stupid but oh well, I hated it for the implementation of the drawing on the picture anyway. So maddening.

chinook why on earth won't you get storage scope? Weird, I'm trying to not getting the option just to reproduce but it keeps storage scoping perfectly on me.🤔

Mine doesn't either. Aves Libre has Storage scopes. Front page doesn't show it, but its also on Accrescent.

Novalissoide No idea. Owner profile, private profile, work profile -- same behaviour.
Storage scopes use is forbidden (unavailable) for "Files" and "Photos and Videos".

I don't think I use any Developer options except for Linux Terminal, "wifi non-persistent mac randomisation" and "mobile data always active", so it shouldn't impact anything.

I'm running latest stable release on P9 Pro XL.

I can set the storage scopes for "Music and Audio" (which is pretty much not an issue for me).

The only app I could find that greyed out storage scope option is Seedvault, plus a few of the system service apps.

Try do scopes on this. see if this supervene on Photos and videos in the sense it may limit the folder access for Gallery.

Novalissoide LOL, I tried Denying access to "Music and Audio" and saw:

"Access to photos and videos also won't be allowed. This app doesn't support the latest version of Android. If this app can't access music and audio files, it also won't be allowed to access photos and videos"

i went Back, turned on Storage Scopes on "Music and Audio", left only the folders I have the pictures/videos I want handled in.

NOW it looks really weird -- in the Allowed section I have scoped "Photos and videos", "Files" is shown of the list of not allowed, but when I tap it it shows "Allowed" is selected.

"Music and Audio" also shows in not allowed list, but when opened for details it shows "Don't allow (+Storage scopes)".

Results seem to be exactly as desired (so pictures+movies from the selected folders only, no infinite spam from every single folder possible), it even respects .nomedia as expected.
So weird.

Thanks for the workaround idea; I'll report back if something is seriously broken (maybe some internals use the Gallery for file picking or something).

chinook Fully forgot i posted this lol, but can confirm that this works for me too.

It seems the new version of android split the storage permission. And looking at the error message you got it seems gallery is running in some compatibility mode that still has the permission combined, and for some reason only the music one can be changed. Wierd stuff. But thanks none the less.
