Is location metadata removed?

In the default camera app, I'd like to use location tagging, but I'm wondering if location data is removed if I share the photo/video? I like this feature, but I don't want my location shared too. I question this because as per the website; https://grapheneos.org/usage#grapheneos-camera-app

Location tagging is disabled by default and won't be stripped if you enable it.

So it says it won't be stripped. Just want to make sure, because I don't want to use this feature if my location is visible on shared photos.

nandohyphen1 I doubt the OS would do this globally. The toggle is in the camera app, so I would assume it is either removed there or not removed. It wouldn't make sense to do it in multiple places.

The specific app doing the sharing might though. For example, Signal strips metadata from images before sending.

nandohyphen1 I read that text as: location data won't be stripped if the location tagging option is enabled.

I suspect it wouldn't be extremely difficult to run an experiment...

de0u just did. ;) sent a picture to a friend by SMS and it seemed to be stripped of my location. I'm going to try by email next.

Experiments are good, but if your experiments show location data being removed in unexpected or undocumented ways...I would caution against relying on that without understanding exactly what is doing it, and in what circumstances.
