Contributing to com.android.deskclock

Hi,

I'd like to add a feature to com.android.deskclock and if i understand the platform manifest correctly GrapheneOS has its own fork so it does not use the aosp version.

If found this repo: platform_packages_apps_DeskClock but it seems outdated and has no readme.

Is it still the right repo?

Given that the repo has a 16-qpr2 branch, this should be the one. I think it's just not updated at all, it's still the one shipped though. Documentation is generally scarce, I'm pretty sure the app is built as part of AOSP (well, graphene's version of it) and you can't do a standalone build of the app as an APK. Take these words with a grain of salt though, because I'm not an Android developer.

Its a bit of a strange kind of package to contribute to, since its really just a basic placeholder. You can install ANY clock application you like that has more features.

The better places to contribute are in places where you can't replace the functionality by installing a different application. Either in the core operating system level, or in packages that require SYSTEM privileges and therefore can't be replaced with external applications. Things like the DIALER -- some features of the dialer, like call recording, can only work if it is part of the system image. Hint: Adding AUTOMATIC call recording would be a nice contribution for you to make.

secrec The feature I want is to be able to select multiple songs as an alarm and play them randomly.
I did some research before considering developing it and I found nothing, not even a physical alarm that would take a sd card or USB flash drive.
I don't want to browse every shady alarm clock app that exist on Play Store and even if a legitimate app already implements this, there's a good chance that it implements also a ton of other feature that I don't want

Alarm/clock apps should not need any permission granted, I think. You could install any app that seems polished enough, and if it doesn't work with zero permissions granted, leave a bad review and move to the next app.

You can publish it without asking to incorporate it into GrapheneOS. Maybe others would like it.
