Open Source GPS Location sharing App?

Hi, so I am homeless, living out of a minivan with Schizoaffective Disorder, and I have a friend who like to know where I am just in case thing go awry in my life. We used to use IOS location sharing but I am leaving the Apple ecosystem for many reasons and so I am looking for a new way to share my location.

Does anyone know of any apps that on GrapheneOS that can share my location? I only needs to be one way. I was thinking about getting a GPS tracker but the subscription prices are high and I have no idea about the privacy of those yet.

Not sure: Would you like to share your location only when needed or permanently?

In the first case you can share your location via messenger without an additional app (i suppose most messenger apps support this feature nowadays and it works across different OS).

Using Signal for example tap "+" icon in chat dialog, then tap "location" and send your actual position.

In Molly, for example, two links are created: one for Open Street Maps and one for Google Maps. I can't say whether Apple Maps can process the links, but your friend can at least call up your location by browser or via Google Maps on his/her iPhone.

Some messenger apps even seem to give you an option to share your location permanently (or at least for a predefined period of time). In WhatsApp's it's called "Live Location":

Live Location allows you to share your real-time location with the members of an individual or group chat. You control whether and how long to share your live location. You can also stop sharing your live location at any time. Once stopped or expired, your live location will no longer be shared.

Note: I'm not a WhatsApp user so i can't tell anything about it firsthand.

A while ago, I used Zood Location Android, and it worked very well. Give it a try.

And when I learn more about GrpaheneOS I will not be as cold as you. I said I have a mental illness and that makes things more difficult fro me.

spodgaju I provided both a link to search results for location sharing on an open-source-only app store and a link to multiple threads in which people discuss their personal experiences with various apps on GrapheneOS. I volunteered the time to do that.

It seems to me that the "cold" thing to do would have been to provide nothing. But different people perceive things differently.

No iOS app yet, but you can use the (time-based) share location via link.
This is even better, as you define the link expiration and might fit according to:

FindMyDevice might work for you. It will automatically respond to a text message with your location and it can also be set up with a server that your location will automatically be uploaded to.

I use Nextcloud PhoneTrack to keep track of my kids. It requires a Nextcloud server, but any location sharing system would need something in place to receive the locations.
