How to keep a USA number the cheap way?

I am a visitor in USA, just bought a prepaid SIM and want to keep the number after I leave. Last time my number was repossessed in a few months.

What would be the cheapest way? I rather not to pay $60 a month to verizon.

I prefer to pay cash, like if it is $5 a month, i can pay $100 in cash before I leave to have it for at least 20 months. But credit card would work too as the last option.

pizzadequeso You could port your number to jmp, leave the country, and continue using it while your device has connection to Internet. It costs $5/month (120 minutes included).
