Default storage for new contacts is device only

When I'm creating a new contact, the default place to save contacts is locally on my device and not to my DavX5 server account. I can select it with the dropdown menu, but my DavX5 account isn't the default location, like it used to be. Is there a way to fix this? I'm using the default contacts app.

I also just discovered that if I go to Settings > Apps > Contacts Storage it is set to Device Only, and theres no option to change it.

Novalissoide Yes, I use DAVx⁵.

Novalissoide the strange thing is, my DAVx⁵ account is still there, under Passkeys and Accounts. But it says 'Sync off for all items'. Theres no way to turn it on.

I'll describe the photos also. For reference as to which photo I'm referring to, I'll list the last digits of that photo.

blur...25.jpeg shows my account, but it says sync is off

blur...69.jpeg is after clicking on my account, sync is greyed out

blur...34.jpeg is creating a new contact. The default storage option is 'On Device'

screenshot...18.png shows that contacts are stored on device only, by default.

nandohyphen1 tried with enabled SGPlay Services, that brings up some Google options, but it seems like a Google account is needed for those synching things.

Novalissoide weird thats the strangest thing. It was working normally without GPlay services for 6+ months.

Its not a huge annoyance, since I can still add contacts to my DAVx⁵ account by selecting it manually, but its not ideal if I forget to add contacts to it.

@Novalissoide , I started a discussion on the github link you provided. We figured out it must be something with my phone, not DAVx⁵ itself. I just found out something else. If I go to contacts settings, the default location to save new contacts to to device only. I can't change it. If you go to contacts > settings right below accounts, is where it says contacts are saved to. Mine are saved to device and I can't change it.

Novalissoide and also just to clarify, syncing contacts does work. I can save them to my DAVx⁵ account when creating a new contact. DAVx⁵ just isn't the default location.

OK, so the issues fixed with this recent update! But another question, and something I've always wondered. If I go Settings > Apps > Contacts Storage right at the top it says the following message;

"Contacts will be saved to your device and synced to your account by default."

Does this also mean that while I save my contacts to my DAVx⁵ account by default, they are also saved to my device too? If so, thats nice because what if something happened to my DAVx⁵ account, then my contacts would still all be available locally.

No. At least it is not doing it for me. Devlice contacts and other Contacts accounts are kept separately, and I believe that should be.
If you go to Contacts app, click the hamburger menu, you can navigate between the different Contact "slots" there, including Device.
