(Note of warning, my laptop is a gaming laptop, so I basically have to leave it plugged in).
The issue you may find with Linux, or so I've heard, is that battery management is not quite as good as Windows and nowhere near what an apple silicon Mac can do.
A possibility that I haven't personally looked into is getting one of those Snapdragon laptops and running a distro that has a version compiled for ARM. You should get pretty good battery life out of that. Admittedly you're then dealing with ARM software instead of x86/64, which may cause some headaches.
There is a version of Linux in the works that runs on Apple Silicon, it's called Asahi Linux... But, that's literally all that I know about it.
