I am on a Google Pixel 9.
I have tried to install Proton Mail in my Owner profile, which does not have Google Play Services / Play Store installed, via Obtainium. At the time of writing, the latest Proton Mail release is v7.4.1 (15646), from the official GitHub repo.
Obtainium failed to install the app, throwing a single "Invalid [android-mail]" error.
I then went direct to the GitHub releases page, downloaded the latest APK and tried once more. Again, I got the same error.
I then switched to a user profile with Google Play Services installed, downloaded the same APK and hey presto, the app installed correctly.
Has anyone run into the same issue?
Does this mean that the app absolutely needs Google Play Services to work?
I was under the impression that this functionality was optional, and only needed for notifications.
I'd rather install it in the Owner profile (no GPS/ PS) because that's where my other Proton apps live (all of them installed without issues), and because I want to keep email attachments in there as well, should I wish to download them.
Thank you!
