Group text issue

Hi all.

Recently started using graphene on a pixel 9a and I'm running into a strange issue. In a large group chat, I'm only able to see messages from one participant. My messages show up, but I can't see responses from everyone else. All of the rest of the chat are using iphones.

Looking at someone else's phone, the messages that I do receive are shown as SMS, the ones I don't get are RCS. I've already turned off RCS on google messages on my old phone, and used the web form to deregister my old phone from RCS. It seems weird to me that one phone is able to figure out to send an SMS, but the rest can't. Does anyone have any ideas?

This issue seems to be consistent across the stock messaging app, Wize SMS, and Quik.

Apologies if this has already been asked. The other posts I could find all seemed to be about getting RCS to work (which I don't want), or were a few years old.

Hi all, apologies for the new username, had an issue with my account.

Just wanted to bump this in case it got missed over the holidays. The issue is still ongoing and is now present in a few other groups.

If anyone has any ideas it's super appreciated.

Ricardomontelbaum1 I have avoided the RCS lottery, but I think I've read that if a group participant switches from RCS to SMS/MMS then the group chat must be deleted and recreated.

Tried recreating the same group and sending a message but that didn't fix anything. Guessing they'd all have to delete the original chat individually on their phones?

That is what I think I have read on the forum.

Yeah, classic mixed group chat problem with iPhone users. Since you switched to SMS/MMS by disabling RCS, the group needs to be fully downgraded. Have everyone delete the old chat and start a brand new one. That forces it to MMS for all and should fix the missing messages.

Thanks all for the help. Yeah, I figured that might be the solution. Unfortunately that might be a big ask since there's a ton of stuff in that group chat that the other members probably won't want to delete. Oh well.

Just to double check what I think is supposed to happen. 30 days after deactivating RCS I'll get dropped from any RCS chats I'm in, right? So then creating a new group chat at that point would resolve the issue without anyone needing to delete it on their phone?

Might it be possible to test this by asking somebody to create a three-person test group?

I tried that with mixed success. Might take a while for disabling RCS to actually work.

The main thing would just be whether the existing chats will automatically boot me so I can start a new one. Easier to wait 30 days and do that than to explain the issue to everyone (who would probably just say to reenable RCS, which I don't want to do because of google) and get them to delete it.
