GI1 Does anyone have any recommendations for a book app that can open and store epub similar to Apple Books?

GI1 Yes FOSS or a full version that is free on Aurora would also be fine (not a book reader that has a paid premium option). Thank you for your help. I will check it out.
free23 I use FB reader, and syncthing to sync books between my laptop and phone, it's FOSS so it's available on fdroid but also available on aurora. Has desktop apps too.
Fireskull I can recommend you this FOSS application from many years of nearly daily usage: Book Reader https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.github.axet.bookreader/ Its based on the good but outdated FBReader application. Also a good programm is MuPDF viewer I use this for epub pdf cbr cbz files after the download for a quick look at the quality of the books before I deceide if I add them to the library in Book Reader.
