Issue with SMS sending/wrong SMS app contact titles after migration to new phone

After migration to new phone I encountered a strange issue:

Took backup of everything from my old GOS Pixel 7A.
Installed GOS experimental on a Pixel 10 Pro.
Restored the backup to the new phone.
When I opened the graphene SMS app all the message threads were there, but under the incorrect contact name. SMS messages recieved after migration also appeared under wrong contact names. Also, 10 days after install, I tried to send my first SMS message, the message couldn't be sent - reporting error 32 (indicating a problem with SMSC). It turned out that changing the SMSC didn't solve the SMS message sending failure. Strangely I could send SMS messages to my own number.
The issue was solved by installing the Google SMS app, then changing it to the default handler. The Google SMS app behaved correctly and allowed SMS sending. Then I cleared the storage from the graphene SMS app and finally changed SMS handling back to it. Now the SMS message threads were under the correct contacts and allowed sending SMS messages. Strangely the SMS messages I tried to send now where listed under the threads corresponding to the erroneous contact per step 4 above. Also all SMS messages I tried to send where now listed under various number that can't be replied to (like postal services) so maybe there were no SMS sending problem at all.

Unfortunately I have no logs to show. The problem got solved and I don't know why :(. I hope this can be of help for other users migrating or possibly as a (very bad) bug report.

Thank you, it worked! I had the same problem after transferring a Seedvault backup frome one P6 to another P6.

To be specific, the Google SMS app in step 5 is com.google.android.apps.messaging

Before fixing this, I just sent a business associate a message offering some apple pie. That message was intended for a neighbor lady 😊️
